Xenon Sentry was composed with a very specific mental image in mind: a half-living giant mechanical contrivance – something between a ship’s computer and a planetary defence system – that has become aware of your presence and is not especially glad about it. Deep, guttural synthesisers establish a sonic environment of genuine menace whilst rich reverberant arpeggios add the sense of scale and complexity appropriate to something enormous and self-aware. The track breathes and pulses with organic-mechanical rhythms that suggest something between a machine and a living creature, and the overall effect is deeply unsettling in a way that is entirely intentional and rather brilliantly achieved.
Purpose-built for science fiction games, films, and YouTube productions where the antagonistic presence of large, hostile technology is part of the story. Works brilliantly for horror sci-fi content, space exploration games with a dark edge, and any project where artificial intelligence has become a problem rather than a solution. Acid Trance is a love letter to a very specific musical moment – the early 1990s, when acid house and trance were producing some of the most hypnotic and genuinely strange popular music ever made.
