Fearful New World arrives with the quiet certainty of music that has thought about where things are going and found the conclusion somewhat troubling. A minimalist piano explores a dark, gloomy melodic landscape whilst the mix sits unusually heavy in the bass register – slightly off-kilter and odd in a way that creates genuine unease without resorting to obvious horror music conventions. Subtle synth textures support the piano without drawing attention to themselves, and the overall effect is of a piece of music that has been composed in the future, after something has gone rather badly wrong, and is quietly reflecting on how it all happened. The dolphins are probably gone. This track sounds like they are.
Works brilliantly for post-apocalyptic and dystopian content, retro-futurist video projects, and any creative work exploring dark or troubling futures. Effective for science fiction game soundtracks, documentary underscoring dealing with environmental or societal themes, and YouTube essays exploring uncomfortable subjects that deserve careful, atmospheric musical treatment.
