I Have The Power is a tribute to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe that takes its subject seriously in exactly the way it deserves – which is to say, with enormous affection and complete awareness of the inherent comedy whilst also genuinely trying to capture what made the cartoon’s music so effective. Extensive research into the source material was undertaken, which presumably involved watching a great deal of He-Man, and the result has the authentic early-80s sound: bouncy bass guitar, period brass, groovy guitars, and a mixture of heroic swagger and knowing cheese that is impossible to dislike. It takes you to Eternia and back in under three minutes.
Works brilliantly for 80s nostalgia content, Saturday morning cartoon retrospectives, and any YouTube production celebrating the television of that era with appropriate warmth. Effective for any project needing an uplifting 80s motivational sound, and for content dealing with childhood nostalgia, vintage toys, and the particular joy of things that were excellent then and remain excellent now. The Gatekeepers opens 2017 with a bang, as its original notes announce, and it absolutely does. Enormous distorted guitar chugs provide the hard rock foundation, pounding drums perform with the kind of physical authority that John Bonham established as the gold standard and very few have approached since, and driving orchestral lines weave through the arrangement with the thematic sweep of a Hollywood score that has decided to also be a metal record. The result is dark but simultaneously rousing – a combination that is more difficult to achieve than it sounds. The original notes observe, correctly, that this track makes anything instantly dramatic: a mug being placed on a table, a slow-motion sneeze. This is genuinely true and should be tested.
Built for epic montages, cinematic trailers, and any project where the music needs to make whatever is happening feel like the most significant thing that has ever occurred. Works brilliantly for sports content, action sequences, and any YouTube production where symphonic rock scale creates the right level of drama.
