There’s something wonderfully matter-of-fact about this little piano piece – it plods along with cheerful determination, as if it has somewhere vaguely important to be and is in absolutely no rush to get there. A single piano bounces through a simple, slightly Eastern-flavoured melody at a measured pace, conjuring the universal feeling of time passing without a great deal of urgency. It’s the musical equivalent of a clock ticking in an empty room, but considerably more pleasant. The polka-adjacent rhythm keeps things bobbing along, and there’s just enough mystery in the melody to keep it interesting rather than tedious.
