Onion March introduces Onnie the Onion and companions without any context whatsoever, and frankly none is needed. The track is a collision of video game sound design and marching band energy – chiptune boops and beeps provide the digital musical backbone whilst a jangly piano adds period-appropriate character, and then a comprehensive arsenal of cartoon sound effects arrives: slide whistles, vibraslaps, flexatones, cuckoo sounds, quacks, and a triangle that appears to be working overtime. The whole thing is very positive, very upbeat, and completely, cheerfully stupid in the way that only music made with genuine skill and total self-awareness can be. The Pro License includes a seamlessly looping version for extended onion-related content.
