Groovy Funky Disco was commissioned by patron Thor for a rather specific context: a battle track for an RPG set in a demonic discotheque. This is possibly the best brief ever received, and the track rises to it with complete conviction. A syncopated, octave-jumping bassline provides the irresistible groove foundation that classic 70s disco demands, lush strings and horns add the orchestral richness that elevated the best disco records above their detractors’ dismissals, and a funky electric piano adds rhythmic and harmonic texture. A classic vocal hook ties everything together with the kind of hook that stays in your head long after the discotheque has closed and the demons have gone home.
